Feltham: Green Spaces, History and Freddie Mercury

Feltham Green and the memory of Freddie Mercury

Feltham Green is located opposite Feltham High Street and is a green space open to everyone. The site includes a large pond inhabited by various wild birds and fish. Feltham Green is also home to the Freddie Mercury Memorial. The connection with Freddie Mercury is also documented biographically: he lived with his parents in Feltham when he met Brian May.

On 19 September 2025, Queen's Brian May and Freddie Mercury's sister, Kashmira Bulsara, unveiled the Freddie Mercury Memorial Garden on Feltham Green. As a result, alongside its open green space, the site has a clear connection with the band's history and Freddie Mercury's time living in Feltham.

Historic sites in the town

The Church of St Dunstan in Feltham is an important historical reference point. It has Grade II* listed status and is first mentioned in the 12th century. Both details identify the church as a place where Feltham's long history can be seen in concrete form, without requiring a general overview of London's history.

Feltham Park also has a clearly documented history. The park was created in 1938 after its reclamation by Middlesex County Council. The term refers to the restoration of the site and its subsequent use as a park.

Parkland, paths and the Longford River

In Phase 1, the areas of the Feltham Arenas Parklands were connected by new paths and cycle paths. The elements mentioned there also include two footbridges over the Longford River. For choosing where to visit, this area therefore offers a different character from the historic sites around Feltham Green: the focus is on connected parkland, paths and crossing the river.

Leisure and local heritage preservation

The Leisure West complex is a five-minute walk from Feltham town centre. It offers a multiplex cinema, a ten-pin bowling alley, a bingo hall and restaurants. This gives you several different leisure options at one named location, from going to the cinema to bowling or visiting a restaurant.

The Feltham History Group offers an opportunity to take a closer look at the area's history. It meets on the first Tuesday of every month, except in January, July and August, at Christ Church Feltham. At these meetings, a member gives a short talk on the history of the surrounding area. Every summer, the group also organises free history walks in the immediate area.
